| Chlorociboria
aeruginascens (Blue stain mushroom)
This is a cup shaped mushroom when young then expands into a disc with
age.
This specimen was found at Te Mata Trust park in September 2003.
Grows on wood, and can sometimes be detected when not fruiting because
of the stain it produces on it's host. It stains the wood blue. This
characteristic was of value in the past as the stained wood was used in
various crafts.
They are quite small in size 3-5mm diameter and stand on a 2-4mm stem.
Quite a fascinating find though it is common.
Edibility: Not Edible. |
