Bisporus citrina

Found at Te Mata Trust Park, Havelock North on October 7th, 2000.

This fungus is 1-2mm in diameter and no more than 1mm high. Grows on dead wood and appears as groups of tiny little yellow dots on the surface.

Edibility: Too small to be of interest!!

Chlorociboria aeruginascens (Blue stain mushroom)

This is a cup shaped mushroom when young then expands into a disc with age.

This specimen was found at Te Mata Trust park in September 2003.

Grows on wood, and can sometimes be detected when not fruiting because of the stain it produces on it's host. It stains the wood blue. This characteristic was of value in the past as the stained wood was used in various crafts.

They are quite small in size 3-5mm diameter and stand on a 2-4mm stem.

Quite a fascinating find though it is common.

Edibility: Not Edible.
