| Schizophyllum commune
(Split Gill Mushroom)
Found on the Manawatu Gorge Track in Palmerston North growing on dead
wood in July, 2000, but can be found year round!!
Cap: Fan shaped and small, about 2-4cm wide. Upper surface
whitish and covered in small messy hairs. Cap margin has a purple brown
tinge and is lobed.
Gills: Split longitudinally. Tan to light brown in colour. Well
spaced.
Spore Print: white.
Stem: Short or rudimentary. About 0.5cm long and laterally attached to
the cap.
Edibility: Too small and tough!!
